The Chicago Trolley & Double Decker Co. is bringing back its seasonal Holiday Lights tour, designed to showcase the magic of the season in our great city! Sure, it seems a bit early to start thinking about Christmas activities, but you’ll definitely want to get advance tickets for this tour. The tours start on 11/24.
Chicago Trolley might best be known for its Hop On Hop Off tours, allowing city visitors to jump on and off any double-decker buses and trolleys at stops around the city within a certain time frame. This one is a bit different. The Holiday Lights tour is a guided event with a couple of stops. Your tour guide sticks with you, and you’ll have leisure to explore, but you’re given a time frame in which to do that, after which you should return to the bus if you want to finish the tour.
You’ll experience city light displays and learn about Chicago as you go. The tour begins at the John Hancock Center, where you can examine the Christmas tree in the plaza on your own time. The ride itself takes about 2 1/2 hours and includes two stops, at the Christkindlmarket at Daley Plaza (shop for traditional holiday gifts and treats), and Lincoln Park Zoo (view the brilliant lights and animal exhibits during ZooLights evenings). You start off the trip with a complimentary holiday cupcake from Sprinkles on the Gold Coast, wind through the Loop and over the river, then return to Michigan avenue and the Hancock building. Along the way, your tour guide will tell you about the city’s history and the sights you’re seeing.
The Holiday Lights Tour runs at 5:30, 6, and 6:30 p.m. on 11/24-11/26, 12/1-12/3, and 12/8-12/23. An adult ticket costs $29, and children 5-15 ride for $18. Packages are available that include the Hop On Hop Off ticket.
Pre-sale tickets are only available at the website, www.chicagotrolley.com, so go and get yours today! They will be available on the day of, but in limited amounts. The company does suggest that you reserve in advance.
