If you make your way to LEGOLAND in Schaumburg today, you will see some new additions to the usual two stories of building-block fun. On the lower floor, there’s a new temporary exhibit showcasing the worlds of “Star Wars,” and on the upper floor, there’s a new play area dedicated to the girl-centric LEGO Friends line.
The LEGO Star Wars Episode IV MINILAND display room features some favorite items from previous Star Wars exhibits – the Death Star and Tatooine, along with life-sized LEGO figures you can have your picture taken with (selfie with R-2? Definitely!). Fans will love the interactive elements built into this display.
LEGO Friends Heartlake City, created from what once was the LEGO Factory, turns that room into a playscape geared towards those who enjoy the girl-geared Friends line, with its pastel colors and female characters. Reached through a giant heart-shaped doorway, this area features tables to build and a model of Heartlake City in the center.
LEGOLAND Discovery Center also includes two rides, the 4-D theater, Chicago MINILAND, LEGO Jungle Expedition, LEGO Master Builder Academy, and a big room on the second floor that includes a pirate-themed play area, LEGO Racers, stations for building, a water table, DUPLO blocks, and food. Individual admission tickets online cost $14.25 vs. $19 at the door, so it’s worth planning ahead. For more information, visit www.legolanddiscoverycenter.com/chicago.
