Schaumburg’s LEGOLAND Discovery Center is now offering Pirate Adventure Island! LEGOLAND has revamped some of its spaces, including the giant interactive area on the second floor, and now the pirate-themed playland lets kids use their imagination while they play with everyone’s favorite plastic building blocks.
Pirate Adventure Island takes over the biggest area in LEGOLAND DIscovery Center, which is designed for free play, and includes a giant pirate ship-themed play structure with riggings, planks, and more, along with new elements such as pirate-ship building areas and a water table where you can test your creations. You can still race cars and enjoy the rides as well.
legolandDown on the first floor, changes have also been made – some of these keep LEGOLAND in line with other Discovery Centers around the country (okay, we may have visited a few in other cities). For example, now there’s a Master Builder window, where kids can speak with a builder and check out the hundreds of thousands of Legos the builders at the center draw upon to create. When we went, the builder on duty was putting LEGOs together blind-folded, just to show how this can be done by counting studs on each LEGO piece. There’s a new building area on the first floor (where Star Wars Miniland used to be), complete with a video presentation. If you’ve been before, you may notice that the layout of the front ticketing area has also been revised.
You’ll even find a new costumed character on-site on occasion – a pirate LEGO minifigure with a wooden leg! But most of the classic LEGOLAND attractions remain, from Master Builder Academy and the Jungle Expedition to Chicago MINILAND and the Kingdom Quest Laster Ride. The 4-D movies, one of our family’s favorites, are as fun as ever. The place remains a great destination to take your LEGO-loving children throughout the year.
LEGOLAND Discovery Center is located in Schaumburg, about a half-hour away from Chicago. Visit the website at www.legolanddiscoverycenter.com for ticket information (and discounted admission!) and updated open hours.
